BOEM proposes 2nd offshore wind auction in Gulf of Mexico - Utilitydive  (Mar 21) |
Mar 21 · The proposed sale would include two lease areas offshore of Texas that went unsold in the first Gulf of Mexico auction. The first offshore wind lease area auction held in the Gulf of Mexico received a more tepid response than similar auctions in the Northeast U.S. had gotten, with only one of three lease areas receiving a bid. The 102,480-acre lease area that was sold offshore Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the first Gulf of Mexico auction went to RWE Offshore US Gulf for a winning bid of $5.6 million without any competitive bidding. This equated to around $54.64 per acre, while the previous four offshore wind auctions in the U.S. had each seen winning bids of more than ... Read more ... |

Unlocking the power of green hydrogen requires a workable tax credit - Utilitydive  (Mar 21) |
Mar 21 · The Treasury Department’s draft rules for the 45V clean hydrogen tax credit will slow things to a crawl, doing the opposite of what the IRA intended, which was to encourage U.S. hydrogen production. Andy Vesey is the North America CEO of Fortescue Future Industries. The Biden Administration has made it clear it wants to achieve a clean energy future and boosting domestic hydrogen production is key to making that happen. However, in spite of bipartisan support for greater hydrogen investment, proposed guidance released in December by the U.S. Treasury Department has endangered the nascent green hydrogen industry, before it’s even had a chance to really begin. EPA softens vehicle emissions standards, giving carmakers more time to ramp up EV sales - Utilitydive  (Mar 20) |
Mar 20 · This “was the right call because it prioritizes more reasonable electrification targets in the next few (very critical) years of the EV transition,” the Alliance for Automotive Innovation’s CEO said. First published on The new rules are part of the Biden administration’s efforts to lower climate pollution and encourage the transition to zero-emission vehicles, especially EVs. The agency estimates that EVs will account for 30% to 56% of light-duty vehicle sales from model years 2030 to 2032 due, in part, to the stricter emissions standards, according to an EPA fact sheet. Likewise, EVs will make up 20% to 32% of medium-duty vehicle sales from model years 2030 to ... Read more ... |
