This Ohio startup turns wind turbine blades into extraordinary park benches - Electrek  (Nov 24) |
Nov 24 · Canvus turns retired wind turbine blades into beautiful park benches, planters, and picnic tables for public spaces across the US. The US Department of Energy estimates that the average rate of wind turbine retirements will include up to 9,000 blades per year by 2026, and that number will only grow. So Rocky River, Ohio-based startup Canvus is keeping end-of-life wind turbine blades out of landfills by turning them into functional public art. Big wind turbine manufacturers such as Vestas, GE, and Avangrid have sent thousands of blades to Canvus’s factory since its founding in April 2022. A colossal 18 MW wind turbine is about to debut in China - Electrek  (Jan 07, 2023) |
Jan 07, 2023 · A Chinese manufacturer is on the brink of launching what will become the largest offshore wind turbine when it’s complete. GE Renewable Energy announced in December that its Haliade-X, the first wind turbine capable of more than 12 megawatts (MW), received a full type certificate for operations up to 14.7 MW from DNV, the world’s largest independent certification body. That officially made it the world’s most powerful wind turbine – but the Haliade-X won’t get to wear that crown for long. That’s because industrial manufacturer CSSC Haizhuang, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, one of China’s top 10 defense groups, has unveiled the rotor hub and nacelle ... Average electric car price hit $66,000 in the US, but that's not the whole story - Electrek - Electrek  (Jul 25, 2022) |
Jul 25, 2022 · The average electric car price in the United States hit $66,000 last month – a more than 13% increase year over year. That’s a bit disappointing since the promise has been that EV prices would come down, but this price increase isn’t the whole story. One of the biggest complaints about electric vehicles remains their prices. They are unattainable for most consumers, even with subsidies. To be fair, most new cars are not a smart purchase for most people, and EVs are going after the new car market. But there’s also the factor that many automakers entering the EV space started with more expensive segments, resulting in electric vehicles being on average more ... Read more ... |

Jun 16, 2022 · Tesla is sending some of its employees who are not in service and are untrained to work on cars into service centers to fix vehicles. It looks like Tesla’s service issues are bigger than we thought. Earlier this month, we reported on CEO Elon Musk’s announcement that Tesla is working on service in North America and how Telsa is aiming to make the majority of appointments same-day repairs. As we noted, it is much needed since Tesla’s customer fleet is growing much faster than its service infrastructure. Last week, the CEO also held a companywide meeting at Tesla where he said that the automaker wants to 'revolutionize’ service with bigger centers and more ... Read more ... |

Mar 22, 2022 · Electric cars are now three to six times cheaper to drive in the US as gas prices are getting higher and more volatile. The fact that electric vehicles are more efficient and less costly to operate than their gas-powered counterparts is not new information, but it is becoming more apparent, and it is on more people’s minds with the recent gas price increases. Gas prices have been historically volatile, but even more so amidst the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the restrictions on the former country, which happens to be a large producer of oil and gas. Across the US, gas prices have risen to over $4.20 a gallon on average, with many regions seeing prices over ... Read more ... |

May 13, 2021 · Washington state’s 2030 gas car ban is no more, due to a partial veto by Washington Governor Jay Inslee. He had been expected to sign the bill this morning, but vetoed the 100% EV plan stating that “achieving a goal of 100% electric vehicles is too important to tie to the implementation of a separate policy like the road usage charge.” The bill as passed would have banned the sale or registration of new gas vehicles of model year 2030 or later in the state of Washington. Vehicles prior to model year 2030 would not have been affected. An amendment added to the bill tied this goal to the implementation of a road usage fee in Washington state. It stated ...
